Lead world designer for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Alex Afrasiabi told Eurogamer that the MMO will ship with more than 3000 quests. This is a huge quantity, seeing that the original World of Warcraft shipped with about 1000 quests.

2000 of these quests will place the player in the "new old world" and the remaining 1000 are for players from level 80 to 85.

Also, the previously announced character customization system named The Paths of the Titans was canned, since Blizzard figured it would make the game unnecessarily complex.
